Bio

My name is Jonathan Black, I am a full-time professional audio engineer with over 12 years experience in the field. I really enjoy working in a variety of disciplines, such as Live sound, Studio recording, Corporate sound and live video performances.

Beginning

My involvement with audio all started with playing in a band called Melaton. From the age of 12, I was playing guitar and making friends which would form the band. We practiced a lot and honed our skills, playing in almost every venue in Dublin. At the age of 18 our band signed a development deal with Sony, we got to work with some amazing producers such as : Stephen Street, Richard Rainey, and Marc Carolan. It was during this time when my passion for audio engineering began.

Live work

Mixing for a live audience is something I really love.

I work regularly in Whelan’s, Opium, and recently The Academy. Before that I was working in The Helix.

Highlights of live work since we have returned have been: Pigs x7, Chuck Ragan, Leif Vollebekk, and Andrea Corr. I have also supplied audio for: AVCOM, Edward Snowden, Blind Boy, RTE, Newstalk, Sky News, and Other Voices.

Mobile Recording

One of my favourite things to do is setup in different spaces and record. I have a mobile recording rig which can accommodate up to 20 inputs, separate headphone mixes and full mic package to record a full band live.

I have received certificates from : Rational acoustics(Smaart), Avid PT 101, 110, Sound Training Centre, and H.I.T. Vancouver.
